Doug is the Owner and Head Coach at CrossFit Utility. He is a Level 3 Trainer and also has Strongman and Mobility Certifications. Doug is married with two children and works as a firefighter for the City of Akron Fire Department. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Akron in Physical Education. Like many others he “lifted” and did the”cardio” thing for a long time but tried CrossFit in 2008, found his niche and opened CrossFit Utility in 2010. Through his hard work and dedication to the sport that he loves, Doug has helped many people reach their fitness and athletic potential. Physical fitness is not only Doug’s passion, but he truly enjoys providing a great avenue for those seeking a healthier, more active way of life.
Cody is a Level 3 Trainer, CrossFit L1 Seminar Staff Trainer. He also has Mobility, Powerlifting and Rowing Certifications. Cody has a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Akron in Mechanical Engineering and works at BWXT as a Manufacturing Engineer. Cody started CrossFitting in 2010 and hasn’t looked back. With more than 5 years of coaching experience, he has worked hard to become a great coach and devoted countless hours to making Utility a great gym. He is a 5 time Individual Central East Regional athlete with a highest finish of 8th place. Cody brings more than experience and knowledge to Utility: he enjoys helping others reach their goals through his love of fitness.
Jess is a Level 2, CrossFit Kids trainer and Manager at CrossFit Utility. She has been coaching since 2007, coaching swimming at Youngstown State University and then later at Ohio Northern University. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management from Ohio Northern University and a Masters in Sports Administration from The University of Akron. She has been a lifelong athlete, swimming competitively through college, participating in several marathons, and finishing the Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon in 2016. Jess started CrossFit in 2012 and competed on Utility’s Team in Regionals in 2013. Sharing her passion for coaching and fitness is exciting and she strives to help motivate others to reach their full athletic potential.
Bailey is a Level 2 Trainer and is currently pursuing a Nursing degree from Kent State University at Stark. Growing up, Bailey played baseball and football before finding CrossFit in 2010. Since then, Bailey has pursued his passion for Olympic weightlifting and is a 2 time USA Weightlifting American Open Qualifier. Bailey sees fitness and CrossFit as a way of life. In his words, “It improves your life in every aspect, the community is phenomenal, and it’s addicting”. He enjoys sharing everything he has learned and spreading his love for fitness as far as he can.
Eric is a Level 2 Trainer and also holds a CrossFit Strongman Certification and has completed the Outlaw Training Camp. He is married and the proud father to a beautiful baby girl. Eric served our country in the Army after high school and has worked at Summit Racing since 2000, currently as an Outbound Operations Supervisor. He grew up playing sports and that ultimately resulted in a passion for fitness. Eric started CrossFit in 2010 and has more than 6 years of coaching experience. In addition, he competed on CrossFit Utility’s Team in Regionals in 2013. CrossFit also introduced him to the sport of Weightlifting. He is a registered athlete with USAW and in 2015 won a Bronze Medal at Pan Am Masters. CrossFit Utility is a special place for Eric, almost like a second home and he believes the community aspect of Crossfit is what sets it apart from any other fitness regimen and is why so many can’t imagine any other program.
Cliff is a Level 1 Trainer and a Lieutenant for the City of Akron Fire Department. He is married to his high school sweetheart and is a father of two. Being an avid athlete, he has completed several marathons and Olympic distance triathlons. Cliff started CrossFitting in 2010 and competed on Utility’s Team in Regionals in 2013. Since then he has gone on to compete in the CrossFit Games 45-49 Masters division in 2014 & 2016, with 6th and 10th place finishes. In 2018 Cliff was crowned the Fittest Man on Earth 50-54! Cliff really enjoys seeing other athletes learning and progressing. He loves to see the effort and satisfaction of an athlete accomplishing something that they didn’t think they could do and seeks to assist others in reaching their goals.
Jason is a Level 2 Trainer and works for Dominion Energy. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Akron and is a husband and father of three. Jason stumbled into CrossFit in 2011 while looking for a better way to train for obstacle races. The discovery of CrossFit has changed his life and introduced him to so many amazing people in the community. He is a strong motivation in the gym and is always striving to inspire people in the same way he has been inspired by the sport.
Stacy is a Level 1 Trainer and married mother of two. She has been employed by Akron Public Schools since 2001. Stacy was an athlete growing up, playing volleyball and running track in high school. She has always been interested in health and fitness but found her passion in CrossFit in 2011 and was immediately hooked. CrossFit has changed Stacy’s life – she loves being pushed to achieve goals that once were thought to be unattainable. One of her favorite things about CrossFit is to see athletes be challenged, working hard and achieving their goals through the support and community that CrossFit Utility offers.
Joey is a Level 2 Trainer and is married with two children. She has a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Akron in Business Administration and a BSN from Kent State University. She works as an RN in the Emergency Department at Summa-Akron City Hospital and a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for Akron General Hospital. She grew up loving fitness and all water sports. Joey started CrossFit in 2011 through a friend and quickly became addicted. She loves the camaraderie and the extra push she gets from the CrossFit community. The physical and mental strength she has gained has allowed her to accomplish things she never thought she could including completing a triathlon and developing a love for running. Joey has a lot of enthusiasm for coaching and sharing her passion for CrossFit with our members.
Cephorah Yanke [pronounced: “sef-ra”]
Cephorah is a Level 2 Trainer and helps manage the family business, Galluch’s Pizza. She has a B.F.A. from the University of Akron in Graphic Design, with a Minor in Illustration and Digital Imaging. She is also a freelance graphic designer. Cephorah has always been an active person and has a deep love for the outdoors. She started CrossFit in June 2011, and since then it’s grown to become one of the things she is most passionate about. Cephorah loves the community the sport offers and finds that nothing is more rewarding than seeing people achieve their goals and gain confidence. She loves the challenge and constant opportunity for physical and mental growth that CrossFit presents.
Sarah is a 200-hour Yoga Alliance Registered yoga instructor and has been teaching yoga since 2012, and practicing for approximately 15 years. She is also a Speech Language Pathologist. Sarah has been part of the Utility community since 2010. Physical fitness and health have always been an important part of her life. Although she is a traditionally trained yoga instructor, her knowledge and experience with CrossFit influences each yoga class she leads at Utility. She incorporates stretches and movements to increase flexibility, mobility, body awareness, and recovery, from challenging workouts.
Liz is a Level 1 Instructor at CrossFit Utility. She holds a BA in History from the University of Mount Union and works for an electronic company on a national account. She comes from a sports oriented family with her father being her high school softball coach. She has always been athletic and had the competitive mentality but didn’t find her niche until she tried CrossFit for the first time in 2013. CrossFit gives her the diversity in training that she craves and it has helped her gain strength and given her the confidence in herself that she lacked previously. As an instructor, Liz ultimately wants to help others gain the confidence she has experienced while also encouraging them to push their boundaries and help them grow their love for this sport.
