Member of the Month
How many grandmothers do you know? Take all the Grandmothers that just came to mind; how many of them can re-wire a building? How many of them enjoy lifting weights? Our member of the month is a grandmother, electrician, CrossFitter and so much more. She recently was featured as a member of the Akron 60 Strong. She was one of twelve inspiring ambassadors honored by Pioneer Physicians Network as a celebration of grit and resilience. December Member of the Month is Ellen Herman.
Ellen started doing CrossFit four years ago. She typically attends the 9 am classes. During the summer she attends the 6 am also. She was introduced to CrossFit by a neighbor. Her favorite movement is the Deadlift and she recently pr’d her Deadlift at 255 pounds. Her least favorite movement is the Snatch.
Ellen is a retired union commercial electrician. She worked as an electrician for 31 years and retired June 15, 2018. She spends her extra time volunteering at the dog pound, walking the dogs. She has been a Hospice Volunteer for 15 years. Her favorite color is green and she would choose dessert over booze. Her dream vacation destination is to go back to Hawaii.
Ellen’s current goal is to Deadlift 275 pounds. She describes herself as a morning person and prefers sweet foods over salty and chooses chicken over beef. She likes the toilet paper roll on over. Her hobbies include taking care of her dogs. She has a black and white boxer named Ace and a red and white Alaskan Malamute named Zor.
Ellen has two daughters and a son. Her youngest daughter, Katie was an active member at Utility until she moved. She still drops in occasionally. Ellen is a proud grandmother to four grandsons and 3 granddaughters. Her grandchildren range from 1 to 21 and she enjoys spending lots of time with all of them.
Ellen had this to say about CrossFit Utility “I love CrossFit Utility. I hope I am able to be a member for many more years!”
We are proud to have Ellen as a member of our community. You can read more about her on the Akron 60 Strong Facebook page. The link to order a calendar is http://Akron60strong.com/ . Calendars are $15 and all proceeds benefit the Faithful Servants non-profit organization.
